Where we are now

Hi! We wanted to provide an update on what has been going on with our adoption adventure over the last (several) months. So the last time we were here we announced we were starting to look for an independent adoption opportunity and addressed some frequently asked questions about our adoption process and adoption in general. Now we want to give you an overview of the last several months and let you know where we are going from here.

We have been SO blessed with so many people reaching out to us and sending us information they come across pertaining to children whose birth parents are wanting to make a placement plan for them. From them we have made some initial contacts with a few ladies, but as you can imagine this is a long and sometimes difficult process and the Lord had other plans for us. J

Mike and I felt like it was time so start pursuing agency adoption. We considered a few agencies but ended up choosing an agency in Dallas. One of the main reasons was because Mike’s brother, Matt and his wife Abi, had just started working with them to bring home their baby, our sweet niece, Eloise, and couldn’t have said anything better about them. J We set up an initial appointment with the agency and we were able to get the process started quickly. VERY shortly after, we were approached by a birthmother seeking to make an independent placement plan for her baby. Prayerfully we stepped away from the agency. We were excited for this new possibility and were able to walk that path with them for a couple months. Ultimately, with the support of their families, she chose to make a parenting plan, and we are definitely happy for them! J

We continued to seek Gods will for our family and decided to pursue agency adoption again. We decided to contact a couple more agencies but ultimately ended up going with the prior agency. We really like them and we are able to jump right in where we left off and are so EXCITED to be moving closer to bringing a baby home. J

That being said, the expenses for an agency adoption run anywhere between $25,000 to $40,000. This includes required training for adoptive parents, the home study, counseling for birth and adoptive parents, medical expenses, legal fees etc. Our agency also has an office in El Paso and if we are matched with a birth mom there, we will be responsible for additional travel costs for us and our case worker. That being said, we are going to be doing a fundraiser. We will have a blog post in the next couple days with more information about that.

Thank you for following in this adventure with us!
